Many people can't identify a
mule deer from a whitetail deer. There are many characteristics to distinguish one from
the other. First of all the mule deer has split tines while the whitetail doesn't and the
antler mass is mostly larger in the mule deer than the whitetail deer. The color of the
whitetail is generally darker than the mule deer and the body is generally smaller than a
mule deer. Also the tail on the whitetail is generally bigger and pure white on the back
side of the tail while the butt on the mule deer is white and the whitetail's butt is the
same as its hide.
